Summon searches resulting in Application Error message

Resolved December 10, 2024 at 5:30pm

Summon is experiencing intermittent issues with searches failing to complete and displaying an “Application Error. Your search has failed to complete. Please try again.”

Other institutions are experiencing the same problem, and the Summon vendor is working on it.

Some workarounds for finding and accessing materials in the Library collection:

  • use the “Books & Media” tab to search for books, videos
  • use the “Indexes & Databases” tab to search directly in the databases
  • use the Lean Library browser extension to check for UBC Library access when searching/browsing external sites: https://guides.library.ubc.ca/connect/ll

Stay tuned for updates!

Criterion, Audio Cine and Kanopy Issues when using Firefox browser

Update December 12, 2024: In addition to Criterion and Audio Cine, users may not be able to load streaming videos from Kanopy when using the Firefox browser on a UBC computer. Please use a different browser.

When using the Firefox browser, users may see a “Media unavailable: You don’t have permissions to view this media” error when they try to stream a video. This error is more likely when using a UBC computer. eResources is working on the issue.

As a workaround, please use a different browser (Chrome, Edge, Safari) to stream videos from Criterion or Audio Cine.

Pitchbook Access Issue

We had a technical issue yesterday that blocked access to Pitchbook. You should now be able to access Pitchbook by logging in via the Resource Page website – https://resources.library.ubc.ca/page.php?details=pitchbook&id=2710

If you get a Account Expired error. Try using the ‘Create an Account’ option, using the same email and your account will be reinstated.

If you continuously see a prompt to set a password, try closing your tabs and clearing your cache and cookies, and then access the Pitchbook website again – https://resources.library.ubc.ca/page.php?details=pitchbook&id=2710

If you still have access issues, please report to us – https://about.library.ubc.ca/contact-us/ejournal-help

National Film Board – Lost access to some films

The National Film Board (NFB) has lost rights to some of their hosted films and are now actively negotiating to get them back.

Luckily it currently only appears to be a small amount of films that we have lost access to. We are still working to identify which films specifically, but since NFB is still actively negotiating, we don’t have an accurate list.

They hope to get us an accurate list in the next couple weeks. If you come across a film in the catalogue that we have lost access to, please report to eResources.

Knovel requiring logging in to Personal Elsevier Account before Access

Knovel will now prompt users to log-in to (or create an) Elsevier Account before accessing. eResources is investigating getting this removed so users can have direct access just through the Library.
