*UPDATE* Box fixed. Now you can sort your Library Catalogue search results. “Thank you,” to the Systems folks!
The title of this post basically sums it up: the “Sort By” drop-down box which appears with your search results in the UBC Library catalogue currently does nothing. We are working on the problem. Stay tuned.
UBC Catalogue’s “Sort By” Box: It’s Broke
RefWorks: Please Read the Update
The Library’s RefWorks crew has updated their information page. Please take a look. Remember to use the CORRECT URL for UBC patrons. Or as the Library’s RefWorks crew puts it:
“Do NOT create an account from the US refworks site.”
Global NewsBank: Now Access World News
![Access World News](http://blogs.ubc.ca/eresourcestatus/files/2009/07/newsbank.jpg)
Access World News
With nearly 3,000 newspapers from around the world, Access World News (formerly Global NewsBank) really is your one-stop newsstand. So grab your morning cuppa and settle in with the Daily Monitor from Addis Ababa or maybe Orillia Today.
Note: from the NewsBank site, you also have the option of clicking on “World Newspaper Archive.” It’s a slow link to some historical, Latin American newspapers.
Sabin Americana: Publications about the Americas
Based on Joseph Sabin’s landmark bibliography, this collection contains works about the Americas published throughout the world from 1500 to the early 1900’s.
Read more at our Sabin Americana info page. Then go in and have a look at “British Columbia and Vancouver’s island : a complete handbook” – 1858.
MEDLINE Full Text (Ebsco): Not Linking
*UPDATE* The links are now working for both the A-Z list and the eLink.
Feels almost like déjà vu all over again. MEDLINE with Full Text is displaying an error page when you try to link in from our A-Z list or via our button (previous problem was a blank page). The authorities have been contacted. Meanwhile, it’s not a total washout. When you land on the MEDLINE page, you can always click “Publications” (upper left) and browse/search your title there. Stay tuned
Cambridge Online Journals: Day of Maintenance
*UPDATE* The barricades are down and the site has re-opened for business.
Just a heads up, Cambridge Online Journals’ site was down earlier today (July 09, 2009) for maintenance… and I have been advised by CUP to “let people know that it might have sporadic downtime for the rest of today.”
…so now you know.
GeoScienceWorld – back on track
* Update * – GSW access has been restored. Please report any continuing problems to lib-ejhelp@interchange.ubc.ca.
Many of you have reported our loss of access to GeoScienceWorld. We’ve notified the vendor of the problem, but unfortunately we anticipate that this won’t be resolved until after the July 4th holiday weekend in the US. Stay tuned.
IMF eLibrary: Trial Access
From now till July 22nd, try the IMF e-Library.
“The International Monetary Fund publishes a vast amount of information on its own activities and policies, as well as on its 185 member countries.”
Books 24×7: Slight Glitch in Connecting
**UPDATE** Problem resolved. Connection now goes from EZproxy into Books 24×7 site on 1st attempt. Now go read Cocoa Programming for Mac OS X for Dummies.
If you have tried to connect to a Books 24×7 title lately, you may have noticed a small glitch. On the first attempt through EZproxy (where you enter your UBCcard Barcode and PIN), you land on the “Blue Box” log in screen for Books 24×7. Don’t panic or try to figure out what to enter. Use your browsers Back button and enter EZproxy again. On the second attempt (as long as you don’t clear you cookies) you will connect to your book.
Why is this? Top people are working on that question right now. Stay tuned.
MEDLINE with Full Text: Links to Blank Page
*UPDATE* – Links working now.
Somewhere, someone altered all the internal journal IDs for the MEDLINE with Full Text titles (not us, honest!). As a result, links from our ejournal A-Z list and our button go to a mostly blank Ebsco Host page.
If you click on “Publications” in the upper left of that page, you can re-search your journal there. A pain, yes, but we are working to resolve it. Stay tuned.
