Sadly, this problem seems a little deeper. RSVPN is not connecting into some databases/journals. This is proving tricky to solve. For those that can, please try the VPN connection (see link in message below). For those that can’t (some hospital sites, for example), our apologies. Do let us know at email@example.com if you encounter a problem. The more we hear, the better a feel we get for what’s working and what’s not. Stay tuned.
Some off-campus users have run into a problem with the RSVPN. The eLink buttons are leading to a “Server is Temporarily Unavailable” message. We are investigating. If patrons run into this problem, advise them to use the VPN connection set up is here from the Library’s “Connect from Home” page.

American Anthropologist and other AnthroSource links are now working in the ejournal A-Z list.
AnthroSource (the site for journals the American Anthropological Association) has re-vamped their entire website. While it looks great, the links to the journals no longer work. You can go directly to the list of journals here, but hopefully our links in the A-Z ejournal list will be working soon. Stay tuned.

‘Tis the season for being elsewhere. And in that spirit, eResources is running away. There will be no help on the other end of lib-ejhelp nor lib-elinkhelp from Dec. 20th till Jan. 5th. But to make up for any hurt feelings this may cause, we promise to be extra helpful in the New Year. And we may even roll out a new service or two. Watch this Blog.
Enjoy the holidays!

On December 22nd & 23rd, SFX will be unavailable as we perform maintenance, updating and some system upgrading. This means that the yellow UBC eLink button will not work those days, nor will the Citation Linker. The links in the ejournal A-Z list will NOT be affected by this. Sorry for any inconvenience this may cause. No Comments

A patron swears they are connected to VPN or RSVPN at home, but they still can’t access a database. To see if they are really connected, have them go to CMYIP (see my IP). The IP address for VPN should start 142.103…, RSVPN starts 128.189… Different numbers, NOT connected. Advise patrons to clear their browser’s cache & cookies (“Clear Private Data” in FireFox, “Internet Options” in IE), re-start the browser and set up VPN fresh or try RSVPN again. No Comments

GMID is back in business. And, wait for it, the old error message problem seems to be cured as well.
Due to issues with the EZproxy server, GMID will likely not be available till Wednesday, Dec. 10. Sorry for the inconvenience. Please watch for further updates.
The GMID is currently unavailable. Attempts to access lead to a log-in screen asking for a password. Your Library card number should normally by-pass this screen and take you to the familiar “I Agree” button. The problem may be a hold-over from past issues or a result of the EZproxy being down. We are looking into it. Stay tuned.

The links are back and working from the A-Z ejournal list, the eLink menu, Catalogue Quick Search journal box, etc. EZ proxy is mostly working (see GMID posting).
Folks, as you may have seen from the Library Home page:
“Two Library servers will undergo maintenance on Wednesday, Dec 03 from 3:00pm to 6:00pm. During this time, access to applications such as the New Materials website, the Chung Collection Inventory, the Media Booking and Course Reserves forms, and EZPROXY rewriting proxy service will be unavailable.”
As well, links from the A-Z ejournal list to print records are not working and searching from the “Journal/Ejournal” box on the Catalogue page is not working. (Searching in the Catalogue itself works). Let’s hope this is all resolved by 6:00pm as promised. No Comments

“RSVPN failover unit will be rebooted twice, during the following windows:
Friday December 5th, 6-8am
Saturday December 6th, 6-8am
It is very unlikely that this will affect the RSVPN service…”
Uh huh. But be aware, just in case.No Comments

Our access to SAGE Journals content has recently changed.
Until recently, we enjoyed access to the complete backfile for all SAGE journal titles. This has now been restricted to start with access from 1999. We continue to have access to the complete backfile for all titles that are part of the Full-Text Collections on both the SAGE Journals Online and CSA Illumina platforms.
Our CRKN contract with SAGE is currently in negotiation with the publisher and options for access to all SAGE journal content are being explored. No Comments

Update: October 1st – 9:20am
Access has been restored. Please report continuing problems to eResources help.
September 30th – 1:30pm
Contact has been made with GMID. The glitch is at their end, and many libraries are experiencing the same problem as us. They expect the problem to be fixed tomorrow morning. Watch for an update.
Searching and some browsing in GMID results in an error message. A request for help has been sent to their Support staff.
Sorry for any inconvenience this might cause. Please stay tuned.
