Lost access to SciFinder

Issue is now fixed. Jan 17, 2024

UBC has lost access to SciFinder and users are seeing an “Access is not authorized” error.

We are working with the vendor to get this resolved ASAP.

“Sorry Not Found” errors with Bloomsbury, DeGruyter, and John Benjamins eBooks

We are seeing some ongoing issues with some eBooks from Bloomsbury, DeGruyter, and John Benjamins giving ‘Sorry not found’ errors from our Library Search.

These are being caused by metadata links that need to be manual fixed, so the problem may take some time to fully resolve.

As a workaround, go to the Resource Page for the Publisher and then search the book title on the Publisher website:

EBSCOhost Error with Exporting Search Results

Issue is now fixed. Dec 7, 2023

When users try to use the “E-mail a link to download exported results (up to 25000)” feature in all Ebsco databases they are receiving the error message:

“Application Level Exception
To continue with the session, go back to the previous page.”

We are working with EBSCO to fix the error.

Canadian Standards Association (CSA) – PDF Downloading Error

Users will see a “ERROR Something went wrong. Please try again” when trying to download CSA PDFs.

We are working to get the issue fixed ASAP!

Canadian Standards Association (CSA) Error – Blank Screen

Oxford access issue – ‘Unknown or Unusable Identity Provider’

Issue is now fixed. Sept 27, 2023

UBC Users are seeing a ‘Unknown or Unusable Identity Provider’ when they try to access some Oxford databases such as Oxford Music Online or Oxford Research Encyclopedias.

We are working to solve the issue as quickly as possible.

As a workaround, place this URL text in from the the Oxford website address that you wish to access. This will give you access after you login with your CWL: https://proxy.openathens.net/login?qurl=

For example, to access Oxford Music Online, use https://proxy.openathens.net/login?qurl=https://www.oxfordmusiconline.com/

eResources moving to ServiceNow

On Monday, September 25 2023 the Library eResources’ Team will begin using ServiceNow as our ticketing and workflow system. ServiceNow replaces JIRA as the tool eResources uses for tracking and communicating on reported eResource issues from patrons and library staff.

This switch to ServiceNow means the eResources is now using the same ticketing system as UBC IT and Library Accounts, streamlining the ticket solving process.

Patrons and staff can continue to use the eResource Help Form to submit issues and you will now receive ticket update emails from the Service Desk email: service.helpdesk@ubc.ca

Updates to your eResource Tickets can also now be found in the UBC Self Service Portal under ‘View My Tickets’ https://ubc.service-now.com/selfservice

eResources will continue to monitor JIRA for internal tickets transferred by other Library Departments.

Thanks in advance for your patience during this transition and please let us know if we’ve missed any links in our documentation pointing to JIRA instead of ServiceNow.

Access issue with CCH Answer Connect

Issue is now fixed. Sept 14, 2023.

We are seeing ongoing issues with CCH Answer Connect – https://resources.library.ubc.ca/page.php?details=cch-answerconnect&id=2412 not working for some users.

Some users will see a login screen prompting them for an email login which does not provide access.

There are no workaround currently, we are working on getting this issue fixed as soon as we can!

Oxford eBook Records not linking to eBooks

A large number of Oxford ebooks in the catalog are not linking directly to the ebook and instead leaving the user at the general Oxford website.

For example the record for Foundations of global health & human rights will leave the user at the general Oxford Scholarship Online Page: https://academic.oup.com/oxford-scholarship-online?login=true

We are working to fix this linking issue. In the meantime, you can search for the title on the Oxford page to get access.

Links in Summon to Oxford eBooks still work. You can search for the books there to get access and use the permanent links in Summon to share links to the books. e.g. https://go.exlibris.link/Q8Sz79jL

Lost access to Access Medicine, Access Pharmacy, and other McGraw Hill Resources

Issue is now fixed. August 23, 2023.

UBC has lost access to Access Medicine, Access Pharmacy, and other McGraw Hill Resources.
